-  Homework problems involving quadratic equations was checked.  Word problems on the same review sheet were completed, and, I quote, were referred to as “lovely” problems.

Math 621B:

-  Journals were returned.

-  Reviewed some trig concepts.  We will continue to do so tomorrow along with any other questions.

Math 621A:

-  Continued review with the binomial theorem and continued with probability.  We will wrap up probability tomorrow and review statistics.

-    Matrix test was completed.

-  Homework:  review quadratic equations

Math 621A:

-  Finished sketching y = sin x and y = cos x.

Math 621B:

-  Completed the binomial theorem.  Exercises 11 – 29 odd were assigned.  Will address any issues tomorrow.

-  We corrected the homework and completed a calculator exercise.

Math 621B:

-  Pascal’s Triangle was developed using combinations and the many patterns associated with the triangle were discussed.

- The patterns found within the triangle were used to help expand binomials.

-  A few examples were completed and odds 1 – 9 on page 356 were assigned.

-  Homework:  Complete the problems that were assigned on page 356 and start reviewing your material on Trigonometry for your final.

Math 621A:

-  The formula regarding arc length was given and a couple of examples were completed.

-  The following questions were assigned:  page 167 – 168 10 ace, 11 aceg, 14 ac.  These appeared to be straight forward since there were no questions when everyone was finished.

-  A chart containing angle measures from 0 – 180 degrees, and 7pi/6 – 2pi was completed for sine and cosine.

- The graphs for each will be completed tomorrow and we will discuss our results.

-  Homework:  Review material on combinatorics to prepare for your review and the final.

Math 621A:

-  Homework was corrected.

-  Studied how to apply matrices to solving word problems in 2 unknowns.  A few examples were completed.

-  A handout was given to complete for homework.

-  Also, a review sheet regarding quadratic equations was provided to look over to help prepare for your exam.

Math 621A:

-  We continued solving linear systems using matrices and finished the example started at the end of class yesterday.  We then completed two more examples.

Math 621B:

-   Permutations involving repetition was completed.  A chart summarizing the different types of permutations was provided.

-  The following exercises on pages 342 – 343 were assigned:  odds 1 – 19, 21, 22, 24, 26, 27, 28, 30.

-  Tests were given back and reviewed.

-  Homework:  ensure the above assigned exercises are complete and complete the journal that is due tomorrow by the end of the day.

Math 621A:

-  Tests on statistics were written.

-  Homework:  Complete the journal that is due tomorrow by the end of the day.

-  Discussed how to find the inverse of a matrix found on pages 28 – 30 of your workbook.

-  #54 on page 29 was completed by finding the inverse using the formula and checking your result by multiplying The original by the inverse to see if the identity was the result.

-  #56 on pages 29 – 30 was  assigned and corrected as well.  Your job here was to determine of the inverse existed and, if so, to find it.

-  Solving systems of linear equations using matrices was introduced and will be further discussed tomorrow.

- Homework:  Complete the journal that is due by the end of the day tomorrow.

Math 621A:

-  Assignment was handed back and reviewed.

-  Started trigonometry by discussing periodic functions and how to find the period.   WE completed #8 on page 162.

-  Homework:  Study for tomorrow’s test.

Math 621B:

-  Started the final unit on Combinatorics.

-  Discussed the Fundamental Counting Principle on pages 334 – 337 and completed the odds 1 – 7 on page 336 – 337.

-  Permutations were the next topic on pages 338 -343.  I defined permutations, gave an example, discussed factorial notation, and started to explore permutations involving repetition.  Tomorrow, we will complete some problems involving permutations.

-  Homework:  Work on journals that are due on Friday.

-  Homework was corrected

-  Discussed the concepts of the identity matrix of multiplication and the determinant.

-  Homework:  Complete 53 on page 27

Math 621A:

-  Homework was corrected and 3 and 6 on sheet 8.7 were assigned and corrected.

-  Complete the assignment on statistics to be handed in before you go to first class tomorrow.

Math 621B:

-  Assignments were handed back and reviewed.

-  Completed several examples regarding solving quadratic systems.  A sheet was handed out and odds 1 – 11 were assigned. The answers to 1, 3,  and 5 were put on the board.  The answers to 7, 9, and 11 were given.  If there are any issues, see me tomorrow.

- Study for tomorrow’s test.

-  Tests were passed back and reviewed.

-  Continued to work on matrix multiplication.  Two observations were made:

1)  in order to multiply to matrices, the #of columns in the first matrix must equal the number of rows in the second.

2)  If two matrices can be multiplied, the dimensions of the answer can be found using the number of rows of the first matrix and the number of columns of the second matrix.

-  Homework: Complete #19 on page 10 and #21 on pages 11 – 12

Math 621B:

-  Exercises 25 – 31 p. 168 were corrected.

-  Exercises 32, 34, 35, 36, 39, 40, 41 were assigned and corrected.

-  Introduced solving quadratic systems.  Gave example 4x^2 + y^2 = 25 and 2x + y = -1 and, for homework, you are to finish it.  Also, work on journals that are due at the end of next week.

Math 621A:

-  Questions with homework exercises were addressed

-  Normal approximation to binomial distributions were discussed and examples were completed.

-  Homework:  Complete exercises 2, 4, 5, 7 on sheet 8.7 (reverse of sheet 8.5/8.6)

-  Trigonometry tests were completed.

-  Homework:  Complete #13 on page 8.  Remember to complete the chart as well.

Math 621A:

-  Exercises 2 and 5 on sheet 8.5/8.6 were corrected.
